Meet Jamie Dunn

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, CA #83669

I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Jamie Dunn and I became licensed as Marriage and Family Therapist ten years ago and began practicing 15 years ago. In that time, I’ve had the privilege of supporting countless people through some of the most challenging periods, circumstances, relationships, choices, and losses of their lives. I find the work I get to do with clients to be incredibly rewarding and effective, seeing people understand, process, accept, and changes things about themselves, their relationships, and their lives that had caused them tremendous pain and shame. I welcome all clients to embark on this journey with me as we together will find the unique approach for your concerns and goals.

I was born and raised here on the Central Coast, much of that time spent in Atascadero itself. I earned my Masters Degree from the University of San Francisco, where I dedicated my required 3,000 hours of experience to serving the diverse population that the Bay Area has to offer. This time truly helped me discover and cultivate my passions, clinical focus and skills, as well as grow tremendously as an individual. Coming back to Atascadero was always the dream. I am blessed to be raising my own young family here while supporting members of this community we are a part of.

Family Walking

Some Areas of Special Experience and Interest:

Adolescents

A vast majority my hours of experience toward licensure was spent with an organization that specialized in the mental health of teens. It was here I found a special place for working with youth and all they inherently face in this incredible phase of exploration, risk taking, identity formation, and relationship development.

Parenting & Postpartum

While I’m not yet certified as a postpartum practitioner, supporting mothers through the tremendously overwhelming experience of pregnancy and new parenthood is something I’ve been drawn to since facing my own struggle with postpartum depression. Becoming a parent, while incredibly wonderful, is full of changes to a mother’s body, mind, identify, relationships, and sense of self. Having walked through and continuing to navigate these impacts with my own young children, I know how isolating, overwhelming, and guilt-inducing motherhood can be at times.

Cancer

For several years, I was the Clinical Director at a local non-profit which serves the social and emotional needs of those impacted by cancer and their loved ones. From walking someone through a new diagnosis and treatment, orienting to life after cancer, living with metastatic disease, and supporting families through bereavement, some of the most meaningful experience of my career have been in these groups and counseling sessions.

Trauma, Attachment-Wounds, & Codependency

I’m trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) and currently beginning to utilize these skills with the guidance of professional consultation support. My clinical experience with those who have been deeply wounded and affected by their childhood in various ways is vast and I look forward to adding this tool to my practice to further enhance my work. If you find yourself in distress in your relationships, familial or romantic, let’s explore, heal, and empower you to change these patterns.

I am currently in-network for Cigna and Aetna insurance and am in the process of credentialing with several others.
